We like him because he’s sweet and really cares about Katniss and he deeply loves her, and also because (SPOILER ALERT) he stays with her until the very end (Mockingjay), and he doesn’t leave like Gale does. I like Gale, but Peeta deserved much more to be with Katniss and have a long, happy life with her and her two children.

28, May 2012, 10:47pm -im not on either sides and i dont think we should make the hunger games seem like twilight because of the teams..but if i was on a team other then katniss or any other tribute sept peeta id pick gale..i know your probly going to think “because hes hot in the movie”.. but i actually read the book and i like peeta but he never really knew katniss till the games so if it wasnt for the games she would of never talked to him and would of been with gale..plus shes known gale sence around the time her dad died and they actually hunted together and talked..

there wouldn’t be a story in the first place. Even if Peeta didn’t know Katniss that long or that intimate like Gale, he loved her better. Throughout the course of the books, Peeta and Katniss grew closer. And the Katniss that emerged from the Games was different from the one Gale knew. She changed. The only person that can understand the new Katniss completely is Peeta. That’s why he’s the right guy for her.

Second of all, there’s a reason Gale left Katniss. Katniss has hurt Gale, badly, on multiple occasions .
“I love you.”
“I know.”

“Because I’m in pain. That’s the only way I get your attention. Don’t worry, Katniss, it’ll pass.”
Throughout the whole course of Catching Fire and Mockingjay, Katniss gives Peeta considerably more attention than Gale (or anyone else, for that matter)
Katniss tries to distance herself from Gale by deeming him her cousin. Katniss seems to forget that she personally knew Gale for years and Peeta for barely a year. Katniss forgets that she was forced into loving Peeta and she naturally fell in love with Gale. And on top of that, he was blamed for Prim’s death even though it was COMPLETELY NOT HIS FAULT. He knew Katniss better than she knew herself, and he knew she’d choose Peeta. This brought a new wave of pain, and he couldn’t bear to be around her. She was a constant reminder of his pain. He just wanted to forget.
Katniss and Peeta’s relationship was reminiscent of high school boyfriend-girlfriend kind of thing. Gale and Katniss had a sophisticated romance.
And on top of that, Peeta is a burden. A nice guy, but a burden. He’s not worth all the trouble that was caused because of him.
So guys, it’s totally okay if you prefer Peeta, but don’t blame Gale.
